Helmut Thielicke – Modern Day Prophet

Helmut Thielicke (1908-1986) was a prominent German Protestant theologian, ethicist, and preacher. Thousands were drawn to hear him preach regularly at St. Michaelis Church in Hamburg, where he taught at the University for nearly 25 years.

As can be seen from the span of his lifetime – 1908-1986 – he lived during the tumultuous events of 21st century Germany. As an astute biblical scholar and Christian theologian, not to mention a superior intellectual, his writings are, in addition to all else, an exceptional historical commentary on the rise and fall of the Third Reich, the nation before the dictatorial perils and its rebuilding afterwards.

Christian values, Intellect, and circumstances coalesce to generate a truly prophetic voice. Not only in his own time, but also in ours today.

Marxists, Socialists, et al, Recycle Same Ole Deception For Decades

The quote contained in the feature image comes from Thielicke’s book I Believe:The Christian’s Creed. It was translated and printed in English in 1968, but the writing began in 1961. Thielicke himself alludes to the fact that some of the material came from sermons given during the war and shortly thereafter.

Let’s evaluate the quote. As a matter of context “the great Beyond” refers to heaven. Beyond that, no pun intended, notice how easily it would be to exchange some historical references for more modern ones. For example, “hungry children in India” would easily transfer to “children separated from their parents at the border.”

…is this hope of a great Beyond merely the cowardly excuse of those who hesitate to face social misery or to help hungry children in India here and now? Doesn’t this view seem to lead to a refined soul-strategy—to comfort the unfortunate with a great Beyond when one is not ready to help them here and now (where they are in trouble!)?…

We should ask, in fact, whether heaven has not actually had to put up with being used again and again to stupefy the masses, diverting them from this world and drugging them with illusions. It is not at all difficult to understand why militant Marxism [Communism, Socialism, Neo-Liberalism, Progressives, Globalists] is so critical of so-called Christianity and why it promises the losers and the exploited an earthly paradise instead of heaven. We know what enthusiasm its claims can produce: “We are bringing the heavenly great Beyond to you on earth. We don’t put you off with hopes; we act. We don’t feed you with the opium of heavenly illusions, we give you bread you can eat right now.”

No wonder millions bite. And yet, on reflection, it is true that many who have promised heaven on earth have in reality made the earth into a hell. Time and again the promised paradises turn into dictatorships of terror.

Utopia For Whom?

I took the liberty to bracket in Communism, Socialism, Neo-Liberalism (non-traditional liberals), Progressives and Globalists after Marxism, because they are all the same thing. Karl Marx co-authored The Communist Manifesto, and wrote volumes against capitalism. These –isms are all the same idea with the same end—utopia on earth.

Of course we have to ask—utopia for whom?

“You Will Be Like God”

The Marxists, Socialists, Liberals, Progressives, and Globalists—they are ALL the same—believe themselves to be gods, with the ability to create heaven on earth. They have believed the lie offered to them by the ancient serpent and eaten the deadly fruit:

But the serpent said to the woman…For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:4-5

The Marxists, Socialists, Liberals, Progressives, and Globalists believe they are not only like their perception of a god, being they are atheists, but gods themselves. Ironic, right? Atheists who believe they are gods?

Garden Of Evil

This brings us back to the question, for whom are the –isms creating their Garden of Eden, more likely a Garden of Evil? For whom are they building this utopia? For themselves, of course. This is their end.

But their means is making people “lower than themselves” to believe it is for them, for their right to be “treated” with economic fairness (jobs be damned!), for their healthcare, for their minority to be held in highest esteem.

Remember this is only the means–fool the fools. The Marxists, Socialists, Liberals, Progressives, and Globalists cozy up to the disenfranchised so they can seize power and control over these “gullible have-nots”

Thielicke’s words are a prophetic warning. He lived during the time of a Marxists, Socialists, Liberals, Progressives, and Globalists “utopia” when one of the -isms most horrific dictators rose to power and reigned with unbelievable evil. Note – Nazism is an -ism fully at home with the others..

We don’t put you off with hopes; we act—government acts, that why we need your vote. We don’t feed you with the opium of heavenly illusions, we give you bread you can eat right now—immediate gratification for all, always with the chief end in sight.

The -isms prey on emotions and basic human needs. As Thielicke writes, “No wonder millions bite.”

Demonic Ways Of Marxists, Socialists, Liberals, Progressives, Globalists, and Nazis

As a Christian, it’s all the more infuriating because the Marxists, Socialists, Liberals, Progressives, Globalists, and Nazis are manipulating society’s most vulnerable people. And the double whammy is the Marxists, et al, make life dangerous and less certain for all people. And should we mention all those the Marxists, Socialists, et al, are hindering from salvation? (hindering, not preventing, that’s another post.) But let’s do mention it, because we know what the Bible says of those who cause little ones to sin.

Nonetheless, follow the trajectory of the Marxists, Socialists, Liberals, Progressives, Globalists, and Nazis’ ideas. It goes only to ivory towers for those funding the –isms. Everybody else is caught in a poverty stricken cesspool. What’s ironic is the mainstream media, Hollywood types, professional athletes—those who help the elitist Marxists, Socialists, Liberals, Progressives, Globalists, and Nazis, that is the “useful idiots,” will ultimately end up in the cesspool with the have-nots. Why are they so blind to see that their name is not listed on the ivory tower guest list? Much less the residents’ registry?

Regardless of what these heathen fellow men to do the rest of is, one thing will always be for sure—though they believe with their corrupt heart and soul to be a conception of a god in their own image, there is One True God, and one day the scales will fall from their eye and they will see. Oh Lord God, have mercy on their souls.
